Methane oxidising bacteria
Colin Murrell (UEA)

Methane oxidising bacteria, or methanotrophs as they are commonly known, are aerobic bacteria that grow on the atmospheric trace gas methane, thus reducing the effects of this global warming gas in our biosphere. This cross-section of methane oxidising bacteria shows the unusual intracytoplasmic membrane systems which are believed to contain the enzyme methane monooxygenase.
