Phytoplasmas are insect-vectored plant pathogens known for their ability to abolish normal floral development, turning plants into sterile zombies that enhance plant colonisation by insects thereby aiding phytoplasma dispersal. How changes in flower morphology contribute to insect attraction is being actively investigated by researchers at the John Innes Centre on the Norwich Research Park.
