Leaf-like flowers
Zigmunds Orlovskis, John Innes Centre

Phytoplasmas are plant pathogenic bacteria that turn normal flowers into green leaf-like structures with an unknown function. Elucidating the adaptive role of these floral formations is a subject of active research at the John Innes Centre on the Norwich Research Park and will help to better understand the evolution of virulence mechanisms employed by these bacteria.
