The enemy of your enemy is not your friend

There are times when the enemy of your enemy is not a friend. Leafhopper Macrosteles quadrilineatus is a plant sap-feeding insect and a prominent pest of a wide variety of crop plants. Laboratory-borne molds infect and kill these pests but in doing so destroy the leafhoppers that scientists at the John Innes Centre on the Norwich Research Park are trying to study to improve our understanding of the molecular mechanisms of plant-insect interactions.
