Lava ocean entry
Jessica Johnson (UEA)
Active lava flow presents a hazard to life and infrastructure. Lava entering the ocean cannot be measured/used to calculate the erupted volume of a volcano for risk analysis, so at active volcanoes other methods must be used to estimate the magma budget. These methods include ground deformation models and monitoring small earthquakes. This research is being conducted at the University of East Anglia on the Norwich Research Park, in collaboration with the US Geological Survey.
