Cryptococcus shivajii (NCYC 3541), a novel ‘hairy’ Cryptococcus species recently found growing in a UK industrial biogas reactor. A key objective of the National Collection of Yeast Cultures (NCYC), based on the Norwich Research Park, is to collect, characterise and preserve novel yeast biodiversity, and NCYC 3541 is an example of one of their discoveries.
