Saccharomyces paradoxus
SEM by Kathryn Cross, false coloured by Carmen Nueno-Palop (The National Collection of Yeast Cultures)

Two spore-forming bodies (asci) produced by Saccharomyces paradoxus NCYC 2604. This species is a close relative of brewer’s/baker’s yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) and is often associated with oak trees. Researchers from the National Collection of Yeast Cultures on the Norwich Research Park took part in the Saccharomyces Genome Re-sequencing Project, a pioneering population genomics study of S. cerevisiae and its wild relative S. paradoxus.
