Grass buffer strips
Kevin Hiscock (UEA)

Intensive arable farming for food production can cause the runoff of agrichemicals to surface water and groundwater environments. Mitigation measures such as grass buffer strips help to reduce land use intensity and act as a barrier to direct runoff of field soils into adjacent water courses. Research at UEA on the Norwich Research Park is monitoring the effectiveness of such mitigation measures in reducing nutrient and suspended sediment impacts on the aquatic ecology of water bodies.
