Lonar Lake, India
Colin Murrell (UEA)
Lonar Lake, Maharashtra, India, is an alkaline, saline lake within a crater formed by a meteorite impact in basalt rock many thousands of years ago. The lake harbours a rich diversity of microorganisms, including those that grow on methane. ELSA researchers from the Norwich Research Park have been collaborating with Indian scientists in studying methane cycling in the lake using molecular ecology methods.
