Vernalization in Arabidopsis
Caroline Dean and Andrew Davis (JIC)
Plants use seasonal cues to time their developmental transitions. The Dean lab at the John Innes Centre on the Norwich Research Park has focused on vernalization (the acceleration of flowering by winter). In Arabidopsis thaliana this involves regulation of the floral repressor locus FLC. The image shows the flowering in blocks of two of an Arabidopsis thaliana fca mutant after increasing periods (0, 2, 4 and 6 weeks) of exposure to cold.
